Mushroom Grow Kit
It would be pretty hard to get started without this! Our All-in-One Mushroom Grow Kit has everything you need for a successful grow, including most of the items on this list (everything but the sterile work environment and microscope!).
Growing Chamber
This is where the magic happens—the grow chamber is where you will mix your colonized grain spawn and fruiting substrate. Once the mycelium takes hold and begins to pin, you’ll finally see the fruits of your harvest. We recommend using a monotub.
Growing Bags
Mushroom grow bags are another key component to any successful grow. These bags must—absolutely must!—be sterile. The achieve maximum cleanliness, we suggest using grow bags with self-sealing injection ports, like these.
Mushroom Spores
You won’t get far without spores. Mushroom spores are essentially the first “stage” of any mushroom cultivation setup. Our All-in-One kit comes with a free bonus pink oyster spore syringe. You may also use spore prints, if you have them.
Substrate
The term substrate simply means the medium in which your mushrooms will grow. Experienced growers begin with mushroom grain spawn, upon which the mycelium is colonized. This is then mixed with a fruiting substrate and placed in a mushroom grow chamber.
Lab Equipment
Certain tools will come in handy while growing mushrooms whether you’re working at home or with commercial mushroom growing equipment. Things like tub liners, spray bottles, alcohol wipes, and more are all small but necessary tools to keep in plentiful supply.
Hygrometer & Temperature Gauges
Included in our All-in-One Mushroom Grow Kit, this is an extremely important piece of mycology equipment. Maintaining the proper temperature and humidity levels is key to a bountiful harvest, and it’s not as difficult as it sounds—as long as you can keep track of things with an accurate, modern gauge.
Sterile Environment
Keeping your work environment and equipment sterile is non-negotiable in the world of mycology. In the early stages of development, fungi is vulnerable to any number of airborne contaminants. Clean mycology gear will prevent the worst.
Extra Supplies
You never know when inspiration will strike, and you don’t want to be left without critical supplies for your next grow. Always keep extra grain spawn and fruiting substrate on hand, and a couple of extra monotubs stacked up in a closet or garage never hurt either.
Optional: Microscopes
If you’re interested in mushroom cultivation from a mycology research perspective, a microscope is a must-have for studying spores in their earliest stages. You’d be surprised what you can learn about fungi from mushroom spores alone!
